Live 8 has come and gone....

I sincerely hope the money raised by today's event will make a difference. It is a tragedy that any person has to live in poverty in this world we live in today. With all the tech advances, with all the scientific advances, with all the information available, there should not be a reason.

That being said, it is also a shame we have such despotic rulers and governments in these countries Live 8 is trying to help. I feel all we are doing is raising money for the leaders of these nations to pocket themselves and still have starving citizens. It is also a shame, we look at racial prejudicies in our own country, and ignore the blatant human abuses in the countries Live 8 is trying to help. Somolia, Rwanda and different peoples of these countries waring and creating genocide to create a better society and gain prominence and control. Looting of national resources, and taking advantage of aid and money to their own benefit.

This is the problem. This is the leading cause of starvation and wanton violence. This is the cause of AIDS epidemic gripping the continent. This is where the solution lies. How many of us would back the removal of any of these leaders and governments, if it meant turning the tide, moving of mountains. What is just cause? Is this a just cause? Or is one small moment in our current history going to change the world.

Bono's hope is it is "this generation" who will see the change in 25-30 years. Let's hope he is right.

Let's get behind a change. It has to start with each one of us.
